6/26/2021 0 Comments HABITATS & HOMES: CHORESWe have enjoyed talking about Habitats & Homes. This week we talked about the chores that come with having a home. There are so many different things that need to be done in order to keep our house running well. The kids made their own chore charts by cutting out chore tabs to put in the chart. Even the youngest students were working on their cutting skills. They were able to pick and choose which chores fit their family. One child even told their mom that they needed to buy a fish now since there was a chore card for feeding the fish. The kids love to use the Geoboards so much. We just have to teach them how to use the rubber bands where they don't fling across the room! We had our cube with shapes for them to design on the boards with the bands. I love how our curriculum works great for such a wide range of ages. That is awesome for our school since we are a multi-level school. They were able to use the cube or just do their own shapes. One of the coolest Make & Play crafts we did was the washing machine. The kids got to color and cut out clothes to put IN the washing machine. We made it so they could shake it and the clothes would move around inside the machine. This craft took some time since there were so many elements to it. They also spent lots of time "washing" their clothes by shaking the craft as they jumped and danced around the room. These kids love to move! Our curriculum always has some fun table top literacy activities. This one is called Laundry Letters. They had to mat the letters on the clothespins with the laundry pieces. Children of all ages were able to do this activity. We pointed out that the colors were matching for another fun way to match the cards. Taking care of our pets is a huge responsibility in our homes. We made a Make & Play book about pets. It had cards for them to cut out and glue in their books. They were able to draw other pets on the back of the pages if they wanted to. As with all of our crafts, they are able to add things that go along with their own family and likes. A Make & Play Clean Up Toys activity helped the kids with matching colors. The older kids cut their own out and we cut out the ones for the younger kids. Each child got a snack bag for their cards when not being played with. If only kids would pick up toys as readily as they did with this game. Our small group math activity was Build a Home. The game board had four types of homes and little cards in a basket. They would spin and get that many cards and fill in the empty spaces on the game board. If they got a -1 had to take one away from the game board and put it back in the basket. Our last Make & Play was making a Welcome Sign to hang up at their homes. They cut out the letters and had to spell WELCOME and glue it on. They had to make sure they had enough room for all the letters in a row. Then they got to decorate it with markers and sequins. We used a ribbon to make a hanger.
Thanks for joining us for a look at our week! We have so much fun at BCAA!
